Digital font revival of Bulgarian decorative fonts from the 20th century

A vast gap lies between the beautiful and unique typography of the past century and contemporary Bulgarian graphic design. Many high-quality fonts now exist only as specimens between the pages of old yellowed books. These letterforms are completely forgotten and inaccessible to young designers.
Our project fontrevival aims to create a typographic bridge between the analogue past and the digital present of the Bulgarian typography. The participants work on digital font revivals, helped in their research by teachers and consultants from the design community.
In this presentation we’ll show the context in which modern Bulgarian Cyrillic letterforms live, the story behind our font revival project, and the progress we’ve achieved so far.
